Pain Management

SUCCESSFUL THERAPY WITHOUT MEDICATION

Relieving pain has always been one of the most important tasks in the medical art of healing. And this task is an essential pillar in the field of anesthesia (in addition to anesthesia, emergency and ICU medicine).
Which approach is most appropriate often depends on whether the pain is acute or chronic, whether it has an organic cause, or the inner “alarm pain” needs more security and relaxation to ease the pain.

Normally we can offer appointments at short notice for acute pain (covered by German health insurance):

  • sacral anesthesia for something like a herniated disk
  • Ganglionic opioid analgesia (GLOA) for maxillofacial pain (e.g., trigeminal pain)
  • blockage of nerve roots with local anesthetic in case of acute shingles (herpes zoster)

For chronic pain, the following approaches have proven helpful:

  • learning of new movement patterns (courses at our clinic)
  • Hypnosis
  • Acupuncture

These are procedures that underlie the learning process of the nervous system, through a learning process (wrong behavior) chronical pain manifests itself. The therapy, i.e. treatment from the outside, adjustment with medication, etc. often only helps as long as the therapy is ongoing, this can be an important first step to alleviation, but a relearning process goes beyond that.

These procedures offered at our clinic, are currently not covered by the statutory German health insurance. Prior of your appointment, you will be contacted by Dr. Spitzer m.d. to clarify if any of the procedures indicated are suitable and desired by you; If necessary, you will also be referred to a specialized practice or hospital.

If you have any further questions, feel free to contact our anesthesia team.
